SRI LANKAN GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIPS FOR FOREIGN STUDENTS FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2012.
Scholarship Details
Applications
are invited from eligible foreign students to study at undergraduate or
postgraduate levels in Sri Lankan Universities. The award under the special 100
scholarships programme, made by the Ministry
of Higher Education, Sri Lanka, is for courses of study that will begin in October
of 2012.

Ø Scholarships are open for
courses of studies other than Medical & Dental Sciences.
Ø Places are limited for
Engineering Sciences.
Ø Candidates can request for
more courses indicating their preferences as places are limited in some fields.

Eligibility Requirements
Be
citizens of the selected 48 countries

Undergraduate Applicants
Candidates with impressive results of an examination
deemed equivalent to G.C.E. (Advance Level) Examination of Sri Lanka are
eligible to apply for admission to universities in Sri Lanka.
Notes:
i.
Applicants
are advised to attach to their applications the original letter obtained from
the Examinations Board concerned, to prove that their educational
qualifications are equivalent to the G.C.E. (A/L) Examination in Sri Lanka or
qualifications required for admission to a university in their own
country to follow an undergraduate course of study leading to a Bachelor degree.
ii.
Applicants
should ensure that all required passes be obtained in one and the same sitting
under a recognized Board of Examination.

Postgraduate Applicants
Applicants should have a first degree from a
recognized university with good academic merits and for PhD studies a relevant
postgraduate qualification, which is normally a Masters degree.
[2] English Language Proficiency
English is the medium of instruction.
Accordingly, an applicant whose previous education has not been conducted in
English must demonstrate a good command of English sufficient to meet the
demands of classroom instructions, written assignments and participation in
tutorials and discussions. Therefore applicants must provide evidence of proficiency in English i.e.
achieve a minimum score of TOEFL 525 or a score of IELTS 6.0 for undergraduate studies. For Masters or
PhD the required marks should be a score of TOEFL 550 or a score of IELTS 6.5
and above.
[3] Terms and Conditions of the Scholarship
3.1 Exempt from registration fee, tuition
fee and fee for Laboratory experiments.
3.2 Students’ visa is given free of charge.
3.3 During the study period, a monthly
allowance of Rs.30, 000/. will be paid.
3.4 One-off settlement allowance of Rs.
10,000/- is given after registration at the university.
3.5 Cost of Air fare should be borne by the
scholarship holder.
3.6 Accommodation:
It is expected that the scholarship
holder will meet the expenditure for food and accommodation with a monthly
allowance of Rs.30, 000/- (The relevant university will assist in finding accommodation)
3.7 Medical
Cover: Free of charge medical benefits
will be provided at government hospitals
other than dental related
diseases.
3.8
Scholarship holder should be in good health and he/ she should submit a Medical
Health
Certificate issued by a Government Hospital or an accredited medical agency as per the attached format within two months of the registration.
3.9 No request for change of course or university will
be entertained after registration.
Notes : -
(i)
The scholarship holder is required to maintain a satisfactory
performance of his/her studies until graduation and if not, scholarship can be
terminated before the completion of the full period.
(ii)
In case
the scholarship holder cannot complete the course during the prescribed period
due to reasons of health or other unavoidable circumstances, considerations
will be given to extend the scholarship
by a maximum of one year on the recommendation of the University.
(iii)
The rules and regulations
imposed by each university for the university students will also apply to the
scholarship holders.

of Applications:
Applications together with all required
documents should be submitted to the following address on or before 30th of June, 2012 through the relevant
Sri Lankan Diplomatic Missions. Applications received from other means and the
late applications will not be considered.
